Nebesht is an independent literary magazine publishing short fiction, book reviews and articles about literature. We are a small team with a genuine love of good writing, and we read every submission we receive.

What We Publish

We welcome short fiction, book reviews and articles on literary topics from writers anywhere in the world. We are particularly interested in voices from the Middle East and Central Asia, and especially encourage submissions from authors writing in Arabic, Farsi and Dari.

Stories originally written in Farsi or Dari may be submitted in the original language. If we feel the work is a good fit for Nebesht, we will arrange translation into English ourselves. Stories written in Arabic should be submitted already translated into English.

For short fiction, there is no word limit. We trust writers to find the length their story needs.

For book reviews and articles, please keep your piece between 800 and 1500 words.

Before You Submit

Please read the following carefully before sending us your work:

• We only accept previously unpublished work. Please do not submit anything that has appeared elsewhere in print or online.
• We do not accept simultaneous submissions. Please do not submit the same work to another publication while it is under consideration with us.
• Please submit one piece at a time.
• We do not accept submissions from writers under the age of 18.
• By submitting your work you confirm that it is entirely your own, that you hold the rights to it, and that it does not infringe the copyright of any third party.
• We expect submitted fiction to be fully edited and ready to publish. We do not offer editorial feedback or critique, and we are not able to return work with comments. Please only send us work you consider finished.
• We do not pay contributors at this time.

Rights

Nebesht acquires no rights over submitted or published work. If we publish your piece, you remain the sole copyright holder and are free to publish it elsewhere after it has appeared on nebesht.com. All we ask is that you credit Nebesht as the first publisher if the work is subsequently reprinted.

How to Submit

Send your submission to:

submissions@nebesht.com

Please include the following:

• Your story, article or review as a Word file (.doc or .docx) with no formatting applied
• A short author biography of no more than 30 words in the body of the email
• A photograph of yourself as a separate attachment

No synopsis, pitch or cover letter is necessary. Just send us the work and we will read it.

What Happens Next

We aim to make a decision on all submissions within five working days. If your work is accepted, we will contact you by email before publication.

We do not send rejection notifications. If you have not heard from us within five working days, it means your submission was not the right fit for Nebesht at this time. We are not able to provide individual feedback or explain our decisions, and we hope you will understand that this is simply a matter of capacity rather than a reflection on the value of your work.

We encourage you to keep writing and to submit again in the future.
