«چارسو» مرا به یاد پیرمردی میاندازد که پهلوی سه تا سطل زردآلو چُلُکه زده بود. من شفتالو میخریدم و متوجه او نبودم که چادرنمازم را محکم گرفت و با دلخوری گفت:
– چری زردآلوا مَر نمیخَری؟ روز شوم شد، کی بُرُم به دِه؟
صمیمیت نگاه و نوع دلخوری او مرا به وجد آورده بود. گفتم:
– کو بیار بابو، رو سطل تو خوب چیزا داره، همه همیتاونه یا یکهها زیر شَلیده یَه؟
– گردن خور مه به مال دنیا بسته میکُنُم؟
مگر ممکن بود آنهمه زندگی، نزدیکی و آنهمه صداقت؟ هر سال که از هرات میرفتم و دوباره به آن برمی گشتم، میدیدم که چگونه چهرهٔ شهر تغییر میکرد. اما چه کسی میتوانست لحظاتی اینچنین بکر را جاودانه بسازد؟ چه کسی میتوانست به یاد نسلهای بعد بیاندازد که ما هم اینجا بودهایم؟
در چارراهی آمریت، پهلوی نانوایی، روبروی دواخانهٔ «عزیزی» خانه ای بود که از دیوارهایش شاخههای غلوی گل عطری و گلهای سرخ بندانگشتی به سرک میریختند. هر صبح که طرف مکتب میرفتم، تمام آن پیاده رو عطر گل داشت. اوایل دروازه اش چوبی بود و همان دروازهٔ چوبی هم درزی نداشت که بشود از آن به درونش چشم دوخت. بعدها دروازه اش آهنی شد، بدون اینکه کوت ریگ و خاک یا نعش دروازهٔ چوبی را تکیه داده به دیوار دیده باشم. هیچگاه ندیدم از آن خانه کسی بیرون شود و یا دروازه اش نیمه باز بماند. هیچگاه نشنیدم آوازی از آن خانه به کوچه بریزد. عظمت روح آن خانه را اما حس میکردم و میدانستم زندگی آنجا جریان دارد که گلهایش سر دیوار بازیگوشی میکنند. یکی از بزرگترین آرزوهایم این بود که آنقدر قدم بلند شود تا از سوراخ خشتهای مشبک دیوار آن خانه بتوانم درونش را ببینم. با قد کشیدن من طالبان هم قد کشیدند و از چشمهٔ روبند چادری، تمام جهان مشبک بود. آن خانه حالا به سرک رفته است، بدون اینکه من درونش را دیده باشم یا نسلهای بعد بدانند چنین خانه ای وجود داشته است.
این تنها من نیستم که نمیتوانم باور کنم روزی در محل ریاست ترانسپورت، سینمای هرات ایستاده بوده و خانواده از راه سرک ناجوها با گادی به آنجا میرفتند. من میتوانم باور کنم که شام چارشنبهٔ آخر سال، زنان خانه اول دامنهای شان را گِره میزدند و از سر سه کوت آتش خیز زنان میخواندند: ای آتش پاک، سرخی تو از من، زردی من از تو. بعد گرهٔ دامنها را باز میکردند و با یک کوزه و یک سکهٔ فلزی پول و چراغ رکابی پشت بام میرفتند. آنجا رو به زیارت خواجه عبدالله انصار میایستادند و در تاریکی آن تپههای دور، چشم به امید دیدن نور میدوختند. آنها خیره به تاریکی دعا میکردند اولیایی که به هرات میآید را ببینند و من محو بازی باد با موها و دامن شان، محو حضور زنان همسایه در بامهای دیگر. بعد همه دور کوزه میایستادند، مریضی و ناشادی سال گذشته را دعاگویان در کوزه میانداختند تا سال نو، سال شادتر و بهتری باشد و مسن ترین زن سکهٔ فلزی پول را در آن میانداخت و کوزه را با هم به پایین میانداختند. اگر کوزه نمیشکست، واضح بود که فردایش حلوا بخش کنند. اگر میشکست، نحسیت سال پیشاپیش شکسته بود و خنده و شادی بامها به یکدیگر رخنه میکرد. خواهر کوچک من اما اینها را باور نمیتواند.
عکسی از آن زمان، میتوانست همه چیز را پیش چشم ما زنده نگه دارد و ما را به آن لحظات خوب وصل کند.
هر عکس این مجموعه را که میبینم، چیزی دارد که امید را در من زنده نگه دارد؛ از شور و شوق بچههایی که برای به دست آوردن کاغذباد آزاد شده در خاکباد میلولند، تا دو شاخ شمشادی که زیر لحاف سرخ کُرسی لابلای گِل و سیاهی افتادهاند، تا عکسی که در یک روز زمستانی و پر برف، مردی در آن رو به قبرستان در حرکت است.
این کتاب، عکسهای این کتاب پل ارتباط و نقطهٔ وصل است. برای کسی که هر شب در هرات به خواب میرود و هر صبح از هامبورگ بیدار میشود، دیدن این عکسها لذت حضور در لحظات پر از زندگی آدمهای درون عکسها را هدیه میکند.
